I just ordered one of these:
A reusable, rip-stop nylon bag that folds into a flat 5"x5" pouch that could easily fit in your pocket, wristlet or purse. It weighs less than 2 oz. (a snack-size bag of pretzels) but holds more than 25 lbs (a chubby 18-month old or overfed Westie). I'm all about the reusable bags these days, but these are the cutest I've seen! (I ordered the blue-striped one, although it was a very hard toss-up between that and the Kelly green. See adorable picture at right.)
Why Baggu? For Brooke and Alex and Luca and Eva.... because:
“Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photodegrade—breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest. Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million plastic bags used per minute. Billions end up as litter each year. According to the EPA, over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year. (Estimated cost to retailers is $4 billion.) Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales, and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.”

So I'll be keeping my Baggu in my work bag and using it when I stop at the CVS, the farmer's market, the grocery store, etc. The darn thing holds up to 25 lbs. of junk, so no need to curtail the shopping... and that can only be a good thing.
